Geelvinck Fortepiano Festival is \u2018Fashion &amp; Dance\u2019.<br \/>Veel terugkerende motieven in de muziek uit de 18<sup>e<\/sup>en eerste helft 19<sup>e<\/sup>eeuw zijn gebaseerd op muziekthema\u2019s die van oorsprong traditionele dansen waren; denk aan bijv. de mazurka of la folia. Maar dit thema gaat verder: voor de opkomende bourgeoisie was het bezit en bespelen van de fortepiano niet alleen een statement van cultureel modebewustzijn, maar het reflecteerde ook een levenshouding, innerlijke moraal en uiting van gevoelsleven. Het bespelen van de fortepiano vormde een vast onderdeel van de huiselijke, sociaal-maatschappelijke rituelen: liederen (al dan niet politiek getint) en dansmuziek, maar ook een verklanking van religieuze uiting, verholen liefdes en weemoedige gevoelens.
